Study Groups

AAUW-Racine has a number of Study Groups that meet the varying interests of the organization’s members. These groups meet monthly at various times and locations.
|
|
AAUW Investors
|
Members learn investment principles and share information on the latest investment trends. Each member contributes a monthly fee with which members purchase stocks. The group is limited to 25 members.
|
|
Afternoon Stitchery
|
Meets once a month in members’ homes to work on their projects. Advice is shared and given as needed. The group also donates projects to raise funds for local scholarship awards.

Bridge
|
Bridge marathons are held in members’ homes and are played once a month as fundraisers for the AAUW Educational Foundation. There are three bridge groups: daytime, evening and evening couples.

Book and Lunch Bunch
Culture and Cruisine
|
This group meets for lunch at various restaurants on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss and exchange books.
This group meets once a month to learn more about the culture and cuisine of various countries. Along with a presentation about a country, a light luncheon is served to sample ethnic foods.

Evening Book and Play
|
Topics and books vary throughout the year at the monthly meetings of Evening Book and Play. There are lively discussion about authors, a particular book or a theme. A schedule is provided yearly and usually includes a play or movie of interest to the group.

Garden
|
The Garden Study Group enjoys gardening-related field trips and listening to local speakers talk about various aspects of gardening. Members share books, magazines, planting ideas and even plants.

|
Gourmet
|
Gourmet members plan a theme and menu for the dinners. Each couple in the group shares in the dinner preparation and enjoys trying news foods and drinks and interesting conversation.

Great Decisions
|
Great Decisions participants meet weekly for eight weeks starting the first week of February. Men and non-members are welcome. The largest nonpartisan public education program of its kind, Great Decisions’ cornerstone is the Foreign Policy Association’s (FAR) briefing book, which includes eight articles based on countries and subjects in the news for the current year.

Walkers & Talkers: The Long and Short of It
|
The walking/hiking study group is designed for all skill levels for anyone who enjoys nature and healthy exercise. It will meet once a month on Saturday mornings. Each walk will conclude with a breakfast and discussion at a designated restaurant near the walk area.
